A Pet’s Ten Commandments

enchanting gaze
A PET’S TEN COMMANDMENTS

1. My life span may be 10 - 15 years. Any of that time away from you is likely to be painful.

2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.

3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.

4. Don’t be angry with me for long and don’t lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.

5. Talk to me. Even if I don’t understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.

6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.

7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.

8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I am not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.

9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You, too, will grow old.

10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can’t bear to watch. Don’t make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there because I love you so. ALWAYS!

Enjoy and take good care of your pets.

Life would be a much duller, less joyful experience without them.

We do not have to wait for Heaven to be surrounded by hope, love and joyfulness. It is here on earth, and has four legs!

Jeff Guidry and the bald eagle named Freedom

Freedom and Jeff

An Eagle Story
by Jeff Guidry

Freedom and I have been together 10 years this summer.

When Freedom came in she could not stand. Both wings were broken, her left wing in 4 places. She was a baby, emaciated and covered in lice. We made the decision to give her a chance at life, so I took her to the vets office. From then on, I was always around her. We had her in a huge dog carrier with the top off, and it was loaded up with shredded newspaper for her to lay in. I used to sit and talk to her, urging her to live, to fight; and she would lay there looking at me with those big brown eyes. We also had to tube feed her for weeks.

A Talking Bird Masters English

Arielle

Arielle understands speech and speaks thoughtfully using English words, phrases, and sentences.

She spontaneously applied the word “wet” to puddles on a sidewalk. Her linguistic abilities and her vocabulary, composed of 4000+ variations of words, phrases, and sentences, challenge listeners.

A book describing Arielle, Another Kind of Mind: A Talking Bird Masters English, transcribes hundreds of cognitive statements from recordings. In one unprompted message, she independently quoted and attributed speech to a child, “‘You’ve got a friend in the bathroom.’ Jackson said that!” Arielle’s volunteered words convey her knowledge of language and that she is conscious.

The hardcover book, wrapped in a 4-color jacket, consists of 288 pages including 11 pictures and reference materials. The price is $24.95 plus $4.95 for shipping and handling in the continental U.S.A.; Florida residents add 7% state sales tax.

The Cat and The Crow

This is an amazing story about a crow that befriended a stray kitten and actually fed it worms and bugs to help it stay alive. These two are the best of friends. Watch them as they engage in gentle play and even a prank or two. This is one of the best stories I’ve seen. Enjoy!

Animals Matter To Me

The Worldwide Society for the Protection of Animals is seeking to raise awareness around the globe about animal welfare. Their goal is to unite the all animal welfare initiatives under a single common goal - the recognition that animals are sentient beings with the ability to feel pain and suffering. It is a major movement to increase the consciousness of the treatment of animals worldwide. To read the goals and to sign their petition click here. The ASPCA endorses this initiative and is helping to spread the word.

The Cat Who Was Never Let Out and the Bird Who Was Never Let In

A Fable by Dave Pollard

Once upon a time, in a condominium in the centre of a big city, there lived a slightly plump cat who was never let out. Every day, she would stare out the screen window of the condominium at the traffic and the people rushing by and the dogs being walked and the bicycles tinkling their bells and, of course, at the birds.
