Adopt a Pet Cat or Dog on Long Island This New Year
If your New Year’s resolution is to save a life, we got you covered! Read all about some of the wonderful cats and dogs available for adoption today.
Available for adoption at the Town of Babylon Animal Shelter
Four-year-old Sandy arrived at Babylon shelter in August of 2019 (Yes, you read that right- over 2 years ago). She was brought to the shelter as a neglect case, left outside in the heat and cold. Due to her prior lifestyle, Sandy can be nervous with new people and situations, so she needs someone who understands this and can help her learn to trust more. Sandy would do best in a home without any other pets and one with older children, she’d also love a fenced-in yard to run around in too.
The adoption fee is covered for Sandy, and she even has a rescue willing to help so a foster to adopt is an option as well (as long as you live within 3 hours of the shelter). And if you’re a good match for Sandy, you may qualify for 3 months of paid training from the shelter to help her transition and be the best she can be!
For more information about adopting or fostering Sandy, please contact the shelter at 631-643-9270. Please ask for Lyndsey.

NSALA is so proud of how far two-year-old Petra (Adoption #BF2630) has come on her journey. When she first arrived, rescued from the local streets, she was very unsure of the rapid changes she experienced in her new, safer environment. Staff and volunteers gave Petra all the time she needed in a sunny cage-free room in Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center, and she learned from all of her friends — feline and human — how to trust again. You’ll find Petra a bit shy at first, but with consistent care in a quiet home, this terrific tabby will show you what a brave survivor she has been. Petra is ready to be in her first home, one with no children 16 and older and with cat-experienced adults who will instinctually know that all she needs to be won over is a gentle hand and a loving heart.
Two-year-old Angola’s (Adoption #BF3619) days of fending for herself outside are over now that she’s safely tucked into a comfy bed in a very quiet space. Angola is looking for someone to provide her a peaceful life and all the time she needs to learn to trust humans again. A cat-experienced home with older children will provide this wonderful lady a great start to her new life. As shy as she can seem with her human friends, she’s very comfortable around felines. Angola isn’t looking for an exciting life; she dreams of a peaceful spot in which to lounge lazily, with a caring family gently reassuring her she is finally safe and home.
**Double Adoption** Behind every shy kitty is a best friend encouraging him to join in the fun. That’s exactly what you’ll find when you meet 1-year-olds Stan (Adoption #FTF06) and William (Adoption #FTF07). These young, bonded buddies were discovered locally by a good Samaritan who knew Animal League America would lead them to a much safer life than the one they left behind. After spending time together in a sunny, quiet room, William emerged as an outgoing companion full of love and gratitude for the improvement to their circumstances. Although Stan is much shyer than William, he’s learned so much from observing William’s relationships with humans and is willing to give us a try, too! A home with experienced adults and older children will ensure a very content future for two very deserving boys.
**Double Adoption** When a fearful pair of devoted 5-year-old mini-panthers needed a place to land after losing the home they’d shared, our team invited them to a quiet, safe place. Magic (Adoption #BF1617) and Midnight (Adoption #BF1615) learned to shed their trepidation and enthusiastically entered into playtime with friends. NSALA is so proud of how far this sweet pair has come in such a short time and have promoted them to a more visible room in Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center where their new, quiet friends are patiently waiting to show them how wonderful it is to trust humans. While Magic might want to spend her time tucked into a loving embrace with Midnight, Midnight is ready to accept new friendships, enjoying full body rubs and yummy treats. You’ll find him eager to fit into your lap if you’re willing to give him the time for a friendly visit. Their ideal home is one with adults experienced in helping fearful cats, and children aged 16 and up to help them settle into the new routines of a household. Time, patience, love, and treats complete the recipe for success for Magic and Midnight.
One-year-old State Farm Jake (Adoption #BF3792) isn’t looking for favors—just a great home! This local rescue invested time with some loyal friends to gain confidence in his new, safe life. The magic of crunchy treats combined with loving care warmed up this sensitive boy to be quite the charmer who begs for long petting sessions. Jake is seeking a calm household with children over 12 years old so his confidence can continue to grow. Better take out some insurance on your heart because once State Farm Jake figures out you’re his person, he’ll claim it as his own!
**Double Adoption** Bonded 8-month-old brothers Steve Rogers (Adoption #H211032) and Bucky Barnes (Adoption #H211033) may not feel like superheroes, but they’d sure like to meet one! These somewhat shy tabbies are grateful to their local rescuers for providing them a safe life indoors but would appreciate a quiet place for the real furrever to start (one with children ages eight and older) where they’ll experience a consistent, predictable environment for them to settle into. Bold Bucky is already showing his shyer brother how wonderful ear rubs and treats are. Shyer Steve is learning quickly to follow along for some chin scratches too. Want to be the hero they’ve been waiting for? These two are worthy.
**Double Adoption** Eight-month-old Luxor (Adoption #LA1395) can feel conflicted about his safe room inside Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center. Good thing his sister Alexandria (Adoption #LA1397) has enough confidence for both of them! You’ll find Alexandria bouncing around from friend to friend, wanting to be in the middle of what’s new and fun. Luxor isn’t far behind her, and he’s learning very quickly from his sister that it’s more fun to play than to watch. You’ll find the balance between them adorably endearing! Bring home the best of both worlds by offering these older kittens a place in your heart furrever!
**Double Adoption** Eli (Adoption #NCI2545) and Maxwell (Adoption #NCI2546) are drama-free roommates looking for a home together. These tender tabbies arrived from NSALA’s sister shelter upstate in Glen Falls with the hopes of attracting a family as quickly as they’ve stolen our hearts. They weren’t originally a duo – in fact, we didn’t realize they were bonded until they were reunited in a sunny room in Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center. That’s when we witnessed them complete each other. You’ll find Eli and Maxwell sharing cuddle piles, but they’ll make room for you if you want to join them. If you’ve been thinking about having a pair of quiet friends to snuggle up with this winter, why wait? Maxwell and Eli are ready right now.
If you’d like to meet or adopt any one of these adorable adoptables, please email [email protected] for more information or come down for a visit at their Port Washington campus.

Smoke will purr, sit, and rub as long as you are willing to brush him. Smoke hasn’t lived with other cats but seems to tolerate dogs. If you have a laser pointer handy, then you’ve made a new best friend in Smoke!

Tabitha is a ten-month-old kitty who came to the Animal Shelter as part of the Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) Program. She can be a little shy at first, but once she learns to trust you, she’ll rub up against your legs to get some snuggles and love. Tabitha is very gentle, sweet, and independent. Tabitha would do best in a quiet home with other calm cats that’ll help her come out of her shell.
Meet 7-month-old Ian (black and white male) and Iris (grey female)! Ian and Iris were very skittish kittens when they came to the shelter through their TNR program. With lots of time and patience, they have learned to love people. Ian is a complete mush and even will let us dress him up, Iris is more adventurous than her affectionate brother, but loves to get some pets wherever she can. These two are like a pair of therapy cats, they are pure stress relief. They love to play and eat treats. These 2 are very attached to each other and would love to find a home together.
Currently, there are a variety of male and female cats and kittens available to adopt or foster. If you are looking for a fun loving, yarn tossing ball of love, stop by the Kitten Nursery or the Cat Condos at the Smithtown Animal Shelter and find a PURR-fect soulmate or two!
If you are interested in meeting Tabitha or any of the adorable adoptables at the Shelter, please call 631-360-7575.
