Trans-Canada Highway: Kicking Horse Canyon to endure 5-day closure up coming 7 days

A section of the Trans-Canada Freeway close to the border of B.C. and Alberta will after yet again undergo a short-term development closure.

Situated just east of Golden, Kicking Horse Canyon has been going through a important transformation since spring 2021, when B.C. announced it was spending $601 million in substantially-essential freeway upgrades.

The most recent closure will run from Tuesday, April 11 (midday) to Saturday, April 15 (11:59 p.m.), and will happen in between Golden and Castle Junction. All website traffic will be re-routed through highways 93S and 95, and motorists are advised to increase an added 90 minutes of vacation time.

“Roadside indications will deliver progress notification of the closure and instructions to the alternate route. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and view for wildlife, university children and faculty buses though travelling the alternate route.”

According to B.C.’s Ministry of Transportation, that section of the Trans-Canada Highway sees 10,000 vehicles daily, 30 for every cent of which is professional traffic.

The province commenced wanting at upgrading the freeway several years previously, with estimates coming in at $440 million, however that was revised to $601 million.

To date, 3 earlier phases of design have transformed 21 kilometres of slender, two-lane freeway by winding and rugged landscapes into a contemporary, four-lane highway.

The fourth and remaining phase will remodel 4.8 km of winding freeway, although it will not be completely finished until subsequent wintertime. A different complete closure will just take spot in the drop. In 2022, the freeway was shut for 32 days.
